Adventure Riding In Canada & Alaska

Sean Finley | December 7, 2025

Have you ever dreamed of riding through British Columbia to the Arctic Circle and looping through Alaska? Renowned motojournalist Olivier de Vaulx did just that on his KTM 890 and captured countless breathtaking moments in his new hardcover book, “Adventure Riding in Canada & Alaska,” the highly anticipated follow-up to “Adventure Riding in The American West.”

“Adventure Riding in Canada & Alaska” book review
“Adventure Riding in Canada & Alaska” takes readers on an amazing 8000-mile journey through Canada and Alaska.

We were very impressed with that first book, which chronicled over a decade of riding in the Western United States. That book showcased many motorcycles and provided detailed insights into the various destinations de Vaulx was very familiar with. The follow-up book changes course a bit, focusing on a single 8000-mile solo ride that took just a couple of weeks earlier this summer. It was all new territory for the author, de Vaulx, and the book showcases even more wildlife and epic scenery.

The hardcover coffee table book uses a wide format (9 x 12 inches) and includes 304 high-resolution photos in its 216 pages. It also includes a golden logo and a color dust jacket.

endo-down    If you are more into motorcycles shots than epic scenery and wildlife, this has more of the latter. We were just fine with that as the motorcycle made the journey uniquely possible.

This second book from de Vaulx includes more pages (216 versus 200), more photos and more emphasis on the epic landscapes and wildlife with fewer motorcycle shots.

Reader Analysis | Adventure Riding In Canada & Alaska

I enjoy riding ADV bikes, leaning more toward day trips and the occasional multi-day trip that includes hotels rather than camping off the motorcycle. This is due in large part to my busy work schedule, which requires good Wi-Fi and a laptop. So, I am envious of people who can take trips out into the wilderness and daydream about a trip just like the one covered in “Adventure Riding in Canada & Alaska.”

You will also learn about some very remote and historically significant cities scattered across the region.

De Vaulx starts out by stating that he did only a small amount of research about this trip, as he wanted to experience the region as a newcomer and be open to changing his route on a whim. That was also part of the reason he chose to do this trip on his own. He does an outstanding job describing the amazing journey, and the photos bring it all to life. As a motorcycle enthusiast, I love looking at bikes, but the scenery that motorcycles can take you to is something I appreciate even more. We see a lot of birds, deer, elk and the occasional bear on rides around my home in Northern Arizona, but the amount of spectacular wildlife that de Vaulx captured in just a couple of weeks is just astonishing. Grizzlies, lynx, caribou, moose, beavers, foxes, Dall sheep, ospreys, and bald eagles are among the amazing wildlife captured from the seat of the motorcycle and camera in his tank bag.

Grizzly bears, bald eagles, caribou, moose, beaver, fox, Dall sheep, and an encounter with a lynx fill the pages.

In addition to the wildlife and scenery, de Vaulx shares entertaining and educational stories about the few small towns scattered along the remote route and encounters with other travelers and locals. The gold rush town of Dawson City, camping on the shore of the Arctic Ocean at 36 degrees Fahrenheit, stretching the gas mileage to over 250 miles and gas stations on the map that are no longer operational add to the adventure.

Just like de Vaulx’s first book, “Adventure Riding in Canada & Alaska” takes you on an epic journey to places that motorcycles are uniquely capable of reaching. And anybody who loves the outdoors or wildlife will likely appreciate the amazing photography and stories about the adventure.
