JT Nesbitt, one of the most influential motorcycle designers of the modern era, has brought his 26-year-in-the-making vision to life with the Magnolia 4, a machine that is as much a work of art as a feat of engineering. He has spent his career pushing the boundaries of motorcycle design. Best known for his work on the G2 Hellcat, Wraith, Curtiss 1, and Magnolia Special, Nesbitt has long been revered for his ability to blend innovative design with historical context. His work has attracted the attention of collectors, celebrities, and industry pioneers—including Jay Leno, who has praised Nesbitt’s ingenuity.

The Magnolia 4 incorporates cutting-edge engineering while retaining the spirit of an authentic American Motorcycle. The engine design prioritizes simplicity and is focused on delivering smoothness and tremendous torque at low RPM. Key features include:

  • An undersquare bore/stroke ratio, configurable crankshaft design, and non-hemispherical combustion chamber.
  • A single overhead cam that is bevel gear-driven, with direct valve actuation.
  • A new air/oil cooling system, featuring an engine block with complex oil feeds and drains, under-piston oil jets, and internal cooling fins. This is achieved through modern 5-axis machining techniques.

The transmission design is a study in minimalism. Key features:

  • The engine’s substantial torque at low RPM means that the transmission requires only 3-speeds. Combining constant mesh and sliding mesh configurations, the traditional American 3-speed design drastically reduces complexity.
  • A centrifugally actuated clutch and a tank-shift lever offer a new, yet approachable user experience.
  • Vintage-style tank shifting, without the necessity of mastering a difficult foot clutch.

The chassis and ergonomics emphasize long-distance touring comfort, featuring fully adjustable seating, handlebars, and floorboards. A separate rider suspension system incorporates a modern composite leaf spring and hydro-pneumatic cylinder. The multi-link suspension system of the Magnolia 4 is the result of 26 years of design and prototyping. A refined set of geometries that deliver unparalleled smoothness and connectivity.

The Magnolia 4 is a touring motorcycle built to fulfill the dream of exploring the American landscape—both on the open road and within the rider’s mind. More than just a machine, it delivers a true luxury experience, where engineering and artistry converge to create something truly extraordinary.

JT has designed the Magnolia 4 not as a commercial exercise but as an artistic statement of reverence and love for mechanical beauty. With a limited production run, it stands among the most exclusive motorcycles in the world.

“How amazing that a designer with JT’s avant-garde track record should revive the most traditionally American of motorcycle designs, the inline-four. The Magnolia 4 is an ambitious project and a worthy addition to our American four-cylinder legacy,” ~Paul d’Orléans, The Vintagent
