2016 KTM XC-W And Freeride 250 R Two-Stroke Off-Roaders: FIRST LOOK

KTM’s 2016 line of two-stroke off-road bikes feature smaller changes compared to their MX counterparts. A few of the most notable changes are the addition of skid plates and smaller-diameter front axles. The Freeride 250 R, however, is unchanged.

2016 KTM 200 XC-W

Highlights and Changes

• New front axle reduced in size from 26mm to 22mm to reduce weight and offer better front end feel

• Front axle offset is adjusted from 35mm to 33mm to increase trail and provide more stability

• New open design fork protectors offer easier cleaning of the fork lower with the same amount of protection

• New skid plate protects the lower frame tubes

• New orange anodized rear sprocket

• New orange front mask

• New seat cover with Selle Dalla Valle logo

• New WP Protective decal on front fork upper

• New modern frame design of the 200 XC-W combines maximum longitudinal stiffness with optimum torsional stiffness for easy handling and precise steering behavior, as well as excellent ride stability.

• Fitted with a powervalve and 6-speed transmission the 200 XC-W’s engine is designed specifically for rough off-road conditions

2016 KTM Freeride 250 R

Highlights and Changes

• The perimeter steel and bolt-on forged aluminum composite frame was specifically designed for the two-stroke engine and the Freeride concept

• Cylinder design with no exhaust control system along with adjusted ports and timing all provide more trials engine-style torque and snappy engine characteristics

• Extremely lightweight with a large amount of steering lock and 15 inches of ground clearance

• High strength polyamide/ABS plastic composite subframe is a lightweight solution with high rigidity

• The engine is 4.4 pounds lighter than the 250 XC-W engine it is based on

• A high output electric starter is powered by a lightweight lithium ion battery

• A 6-speed transmission that has short ratios in the first 5 gears with an extra tall 6th gear

• TwinAir air filter cartridge located at the rear of the fuel tank where it is well protected & easily accessible
